Cardmaking

The cardmaking class is held on the first and third Thursday of each month. In addition to the wonderful art and craft skills the group indulge in, there is a fun social aspect to getting creative with fellow crafty minded people. Cards range from the simple to more advanced to cater for everyone’s needs.

In each class a different technique is looked at, such as creating template base designs for cards, or playing with ways to create backgrounds. We have even given origami folds a go. As you will see in the gallery of cards made, any art or craft can basically be applied to the front of a card, the only limit is your imagination and the card base ability to stand upright.

For some classes the cards are cut ready to be assembled in class, whilst for others cardmaking tools are brought in for a workshop style session. It is always amazing to see how a group of talented people can have the choice of the same materials to select from and each create a beautifully unique handcraft.

Whilst in our modern technology driven world handmade gifts seem to be in decline and electronically sent messages are on the rise, there is still great joy to be gained from giving or receiving something handmade. The artistic effort and thought behind it make it truly a gift from the heart.

Below are some of the techniques we used in class. Click on the image or the heading to download a PDF document showing some examples of the cards created by class members.
